Advanced Negotiation Skills - Explores the fundamental principles of negotiation, effective and ineffective approaches, traps and pitfalls, preparing for negotiation and interest-based approaches. Alternatives to agreement, brainstorming, developing standards for comparison and building agreement are all covered in depth. Discussions, activities, group debriefings and demonstrations are all used to explore alternatives to traditional "power-based" negotiations. Coaches and participants give feedback and relate their personal experiences. "Learning check" exercises and role-plays assist participants in implementing their new skills. An overview of this class can also be used as a conference workshop.

Introduction to Mediation - Join us to learn the practical skills, strategies and techniques to become an effective mediator. This highly interactive 32 hour training taught by Bill Adams and Wendy Kasulka of the mediation firm Disputes Limited covers more than just the "basics" of mediation. Topics include: 1. An overview of mediation and other ADR (Alternative/Appropriate Dispute Resolution) methods; the nature of conflict. 2. The role and skills of a mediator including: Setting the stage, listening skills, defining issues, identifying interests, transmitting information, communication skills, co-mediation techniques, the art of effective questioning, settlement strategies and agreement writing. 3. Ethical dilemmas facing mediators; dealing with emotions, challenges to neutrality, dealing with power imbalances, confidentiality and liability. This program designed to prepare supervisors, managers, attorneys, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors and other professionals to effectively facilitate the mediation process and assist them in building a strong dispute resolution foundation. Conflict Resolution Strategies -
Business Specific- Designed for participants who wish to improve their preparation for and participation in the mediation session. This class gives participants a basic understanding of the process, as well as specific strategies such as analyzing the options and alternatives within settlement. Learn how to define and explain your problem. What makes an effective mediator and how do you define a successful mediation? Role plays allow students to practice the presentation of their opening statement, and hear the point of view of others.
Divorce Specific- This seminar discusses how to prepare for divorce mediation. Groups participate in a discussion of how the mediation process works and the various styles and techniques of mediators. What style are you most comfortable with? Will you need a negotiation coach? Regardless of whether you are ordered to mediation or have scheduled the session on your own the more prepared you are the better chance you have for a positive outcome. Learn when to request mediation and how to build your best agreement. Handouts include worksheets relating to basic information requirements, budget information, developing options, alternatives and strategies for success.
