Mediation Bootcamp/ Introduction to Mediation
Join us to learn the practical skills, strategies and techniques to become an effective mediator. This highly interactive training taught by Bill & Wendy Adams of the mediation firm Disputes Limited covers more than just the "basics" of mediation. 2. The role and skills of a mediator including: Setting the stage, listening skills, defining issues, identifying interests, transmitting information, communication skills, co-mediation techniques, the art of effective questioning, settlement strategies and agreement writing. 3. Ethical dilemmas facing mediators; dealing with emotions, challenges to neutrality, dealing with power imbalances, confidentiality and liability. Course includes: 2. Certificate of Completion: in accordance with Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution Guidelines; 3. Mediation Manual and Resources: A complete guide to mediation including reference materials and a bibliography. Information on state and national dispute resolution organizations, Mediation and ADR websites and list serves. $895 per person includes observations of 5 mediations in Dublin, GA Magistrate Court that can be used to meet the registration requirement with GODR must be completed prior to June 15, 2010.
Real life experiences enhance course content.
The use of of experienced veteran mediators as role play coaches gives students practical feedback they can use from the first mediation session.
Topics include:
1. An overview of mediation and other ADR (Alternative/Appropriate Dispute Resolution) methods; the nature of conflict.
This program designed to prepare supervisors, managers, attorneys, teachers, social workers, guidance counselors and other professionals to effectively facilitate the mediation process and assist them in building a strong dispute resolution foundation. Enhance your communication skills and become proficient at the art of strategic questioning.
We will explore all aspects/stages of the mediation process using discussions, group debriefings and demonstrations. “Learning check” exercises and role-plays translate basic concepts into practical skills.
Veteran mediator coaches give feedback and relate their personal experiences. The course is approved as meeting the training requirements of the 28 hour general mediation class for the Georgia Office of Dispute Resolution, completion does not guarantee registration with the GAODR.
