Family Issues
Contempt and Modification-Sometimes parties agree among themselves that changes need to be made to thier origional agreement. For example: One party may move, a child may choose to live with the other parent or career changes may cause increases or decreases in the amount of child support to be paid. Using mediation helps foster more positive communication and preserve any relationship the parties may have. This is especially helpful when there are children involved. Divorce- A co-mediation team brings balance to the table and helps identify underlying needs. If you are in a high conflict divorce a male/female team can assist you in reaching an agreement. Bill and Wendy are specially trained to provide mediation services in cases with allegations of domestic violence.
Family Owned Business- Our business background proves to be especially helpful in cases where there is a family owned business.
Probate-Emotions are often high when a family member dies. Using mediation helps maintain or rebuild family relationships that might otherwise be destroyed during this difficult time.
Reconciliation- In this type mediation the parties meet to draw up the framework for a "post nuptial" agreement that the parties take to thier attorneys for final drafting and filing or the parties use the agreement as a guideline for how they will interact in the future. The difference between this type of agreement and counseling is that mediation plans for the future and counseling focuses more on the past. We do not provide counseling services. However, we can refer you to a list of qualified counselors. Please notify the mediator if reconciliation is the type outcome that you are seeking. You may decide while you are in the mediation session that you may benefit from this type of agreement.
Temporary Agreements- Many divorces drag on for extended periods of time. We can work with you to create a "temporary agreement" so that your family can have a bit more sanity during this "crazy time". This creates more stability for both the spouses and the children. You may or may not choose to file these agreements with the court. You should discuss that question with an attorney. The level of trust in your relationship will also be an issue in this type of agreement.
